Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) is a network service that automatically assigns IP addresses and other settings to devices when they connect. Instead of manually configuring every PC, printer or phone, DHCP hands out addresses, default gateways and DNS details from a defined pool. For UK businesses this reduces configuration errors, speeds up onboarding of new staff and devices, and makes it easier to reconfigure networks during office moves or upgrades. Poorly managed DHCP, however, can lead to address conflicts, connectivity issues and security blind spots.

GoodChoice IT designs and manages DHCP for both small single‑site offices and multi‑site networks. We define sensible scopes, reservations for critical devices such as servers and network hardware, and integrate DHCP with DNS and Active Directory where appropriate. Our team also monitors leases and logs so we can quickly spot unusual behaviour, such as rogue DHCP servers, which can disrupt connectivity or be used as part of an attack.
